VIC Battery Rebate 2026: What It Cuts Off a Home Battery
In Victoria, the main battery incentive in 2026 is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program — worth roughly $245 per kWh of usable capacity on a standard home battery. On a 10 kWh battery that means about $2,450 off, bringing a typical $11,000 installed price down to around $8,550.
How the federal rebate works in VIC
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program (launched 1 July 2025) delivers the rebate as STCs per kWh of usable battery capacity, applied as an upfront installer discount. For installations from May to December 2026:
- First 14 kWh of usable capacity: ~$245/kWh off (our calculator's conservative figure; published estimates range $245–$258/kWh).
- 14–28 kWh: 60% of that rate (~$147/kWh).
- 28–50 kWh: 15% of that rate.
- Rebate caps at the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.
The program runs until 2030 with step-downs along the way — the next cut lands on 1 January 2027, when the headline rate drops to roughly $228/kWh.
