The 2026 battery rebate, explained simply
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (running since 1 July 2025) pays you an upfront discount on a home battery — delivered through your installer as STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates).
- ~$245 per usable kWh off the first 14 kWh of battery capacity (May–Dec 2026 rates).
- A typical 10 kWh battery attracts around $2,450 off the installed price.
- Larger batteries still get a rebate, at reduced rates up to 50 kWh.
- The rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 and the program ends in 2030.
- Must be paired with rooftop solar (new or existing), using a CEC-approved battery and an accredited installer.
